I went by bus from the capital Vientiane to the beautiful Luang Prabang and then by boat on the Mekong to Huay Xai in two days. The farmers harvested the rice. The rice fields glowed yellow around Luang Namtha at the beginning of the dry season. I went by bus to Muang Khua and then by boat on the Nam Ou to Nong Khiaw. I changed my itinerary for visiting the That Luang Festival in Vientiane, the largest Buddhist festival in Laos. Then I flew to the south to see the 4,000 islands and the Wat Pho in Champasak. Back in the north I went to the Plain of Jars in Phonsavan and spent three days in Sayabouri in an elephant camp.
