“Wild” by Reinhold Messner

Wild is Frank Wild. Friend and deputy of Ernest Shackleton, whom he met on the expedition (1901-1904) to Antarctica by Robert Falcon Scott. Frank Wild was a member of the expedition of Ernest Shackleton (1914-1917). They wanted to cross Antarctica. The expedition wasn’t successful, because the ship “Endurance” was surrounded by ice in the Weddell Sea and sank later. The rescue operation by Ernest Shackleton is world famous. Frank Wild made sure that the people in the hopeless situation remained in a good mood and didn’t go crazy. All participants of the expedition survived. Reinhold Messner dedicates a whole book to Frank Wild and describes all of his life stages and expeditions in an exciting way.
(As far as I know the book isn’t available in English.)
