This film is dedicated to a Norwegian national hero: Roald Amundsen. He passed first the Northwest Passage. When he heard that the North Pole had probably already been reached, he changed the destination of his next expedition from one day of the other – instead of heading for the North Pole, he headed for the South Pole (1910-1911). At the same time, Robert Falcon Scott also planned to go to the South Pole. It was a race and Roald Amundsen won. He reached the South Pole 34 days before Scott and returned successfully. Scott and his companions died on the way back from the South Pole.
