“Nanga Parbat”

Several expeditions also from Germany attempted to climb the Nanga Parbat before 1953. 31 mountaineers and porters died. The mountain was given the name “Deutscher Schicksalsberg”. Dr. Herrlighofer organized another expedition in 1953 with mountaineers from Austria and Germany. On July 3rd, 1953 Hermann Buhl was the first mountaineer who reach the summit.
